The MAINE 400 Rules

The MAINE 400 Rules!

What are "The Rules"?

The rules for a Rally lay the groundwork for a safe and eventful ride event. Breaking the rules are taken seriously and wll result in penalties. Rules broken that could have an impact on safety are grounds for immediate disqualification and ejection from the organized rally event. As should be for any motorcycle event, safety is first priority, then the event.

The Rules

  • All riders must present the following at the start of the Rally:
    • Motorcycle riders license
    • Proof of insurance
    • Motorcycle registration
    • Motorcycle Inspection sticker at the start.
  • Mandatory Location: A location a rider must obtain in order to be a finisher. These are to ensure that a minimal level of difficulty is set that establishes a guideline for the whole group.
  • Optional Location: A point where riders can obtain extra points towards their place as a finisher. Optional locations give participants the opportunity to be creative and to demonstrate the ability to plan and execute a route.
  • Riders will prove they stopped at a specific bonus location in a number of ways.
    • Receipts: A receipt MUST have the following information; date, time and location.
    • Picture: Riders can use an instant camera ( Polaroid ), or a digital camera. If they use a digital camera we will provide a computer, or look at the image on the camera's viewer.
    • Information: Riders will collect a specific piece of information from a bonus location (i.e. wording on a sign).
    • Rider's log: Riders must maintain a ride log. The ride log will contain an entry for every stop and every bonus location. (There may be exceptions to this that would be announced at the starting location).
  • The list of bonus locations will be e-mailed to all registered riders 24 hours before the rally. We want this rally to be about riding, not route planning. We retain the right to add optional bonus locations at the rally start.
  • Judging: We hope that everyone plays nice and we can award all the bonus points that a rider earns. Our judges will be volunteers, who will decide if there is clear proof. Pictures must contain all the necessary information. Receipts must be complete. We hope to rely on common sense. At the rally start we will have examples of acceptable pictures and receipt proof.
  • Riders can use EZ Pass, but there will be several small bonuses that they will not be able to claim. That way, we even the playing field.
